DaleWood Farms is a first-generation family farm in Daleville, Indiana. Nothing here was inherited as a finished operation. We’re building it piece by piece — raising livestock, producing food, developing practical skills and creating something our family can carry forward.
Brian came to farming after a career shaped by military service, automotive and diesel work, technical training and operations. Those experiences influence how DaleWood is built: solve the problem, learn the system, improve the process and keep moving. Farming became another place to put those principles to work — this time toward food, land, family and legacy.
The People Behind DaleWood
DaleWood Farms is Brian and Maci, our family, and the work happening around us every day. We bring different skills to the farm, but the mission is shared: build responsibly, keep learning, produce something useful, and leave more behind than what we started with.
What We Raise
Our primary livestock focus is the Black Beauty pig — our Berkshire × Meishan line raised on open pasture. Berkshire brings proven meat quality and strong foraging ability. Meishan brings exceptional mothering, large litters and feed efficiency. The cross produces an animal well-suited to small-farm production and a pork product worth knowing the source of.
DaleWood also raises chickens and goats to order for customers when requested. Our livestock program is built around practical production, responsible management and food people can know the source of — not volume for its own sake.
Everything here has a purpose. If it doesn’t serve the system, it doesn’t stay.
More Than Livestock
DaleWood is being built around more than raising animals. Food production, preservation, butchery and meat-processing skills, land management, practical self-reliance and hands-on learning are all part of what this farm is becoming.
These capabilities are being developed over time — not all at once and not on a fixed schedule. We share what we learn as we go, through the Journal and DaleWood Talks, so the process is visible to anyone paying attention.
Where We’re Going
DaleWood is a long-term build. What exists today is the foundation — Black Beauty pigs on pasture, farm-raised food, and a documented record of how this operation is being put together. What comes next is built on top of that, one stage at a time.
The goals are straightforward: stronger livestock production, more food produced and preserved on-site, expanded processing capability as skills and infrastructure develop, and eventually opportunities for people to connect with the farm directly — through education, hands-on experiences and access to what we raise.
None of that happens on a fixed timeline. It happens as the farm earns it — through work, learning and making good decisions over a long period of time.
Why We Build in Public
We don’t believe the story should begin after everything is finished. The DaleWood Farms Journal and DaleWood Talks document the farm while it is being built — new life, hard lessons, mistakes, progress and the decisions behind it. One day, those entries will show exactly how DaleWood became what it was meant to be.
