Every so often, life gives you a nudge — that quiet reminder that the work will always be there, but the people might not.
This week, DaleWood Farms took a rare day off the homestead and headed north to the Chicago area to reconnect with family. No big plans, no itinerary — just a simple mission: show up.
The world moves fast. In 2025, we’ve got technology keeping us connected in every way imaginable — text messages, video calls, social media, the works. Yet somehow, nothing replaces sitting across from someone you love, seeing the look in their eyes, or sharing a laugh over a meal that warms your soul.
That’s what this trip was about.
And in the middle of it all — we found ourselves sitting around a table at Beggars Pizza in Lansing, Illinois. If you’ve never had it, it’s that classic Chicago-style deep-dish done right — a thick, golden crust filled with layers of cheese, topped with rich tomato sauce that tastes like home.
But it wasn’t just about the pizza.
It was about the moment — that reminder that sometimes the best trips aren’t about where you go, but who you see and what you feel. We didn’t chase landmarks or attractions. We didn’t “go do” a bunch of things. We just spent time — real time — with family. And that was enough.
Farming teaches you a lot about time. You spend every day praying over things that may or may not grow, holding hope for what you can’t control, and learning patience in ways most folks can’t imagine. But it also teaches you this — you can’t wait forever to do what matters. Whether it’s visiting loved ones, starting that project, or simply taking a breath — don’t wait until “someday.”
Because someday might not come.
So here’s your reminder from our farm to yours:
Make that trip.
Send that text.
Take that drive.
Show up — even if it’s just for a hug and a slice of pizza.
Because love, like farming, is about showing up every day — rain or shine.
🍕 Shoutout to: Beggars Pizza, Lansing, IL — hands down, one of the best Chicago-style pies we’ve ever had.
